Haiming Ding has received advanced medical education and training. He has extensive experience in both acupuncture and orthopedics, which has greatly helped his patients.
Ding studied acupuncture when he was at medical school in China. He was lucky to have Dr. Ding Li. as a teacher and mentor. Dr. Li is one of the top physicians in acupuncture and a National Medal receiver because of his contribution to it. Eye-witness miracles assured acupuncture as an essential part of Ding's practice as orthopedic surgeon later on.
Ding was trained and practiced as an orthopedic surgeon after he earned his M.D (1985) at Shanxi Medical University. Ding was trained and mentored by Dr. Xicheng Han for 15 yrs, an expert in peripheral nerve and spine issues. One great lesson Ding has learnt from him is to examine, diagnose and treat a patient, not an x ray. Yearly rotation at the Rehab Center of Orthopedic Department provided Ding with a great opportunity to lead a Tuina team (a style between chiropractic and massage) and incorporate his acupuncture skills into healing common pain disorders and promoting recovery after orthopedic surgery. Serving acupuncture also stimulated Ding in inventing a Dao needle technique for trigger finger (1985-1987). This new tool has largely simplified open procedure and shortened patients' recovery, and also made his first publication. Various Dao needles are being currently popularly used to treat pain issues in the field of acupuncture and orthopedics in China.
Ding is always a learner. He pursued a clinical M.Med (1994, Shanxi Medical University. His philosophy class essay was Hypothetic Mechanism of Meridians based on his observation during treatment of residual limp pain using acupuncture. Ding earned a Ph.D. (1999, Beijing Medical University) and did a fellowship with Dr. Houshan Lv, a best joint replacement specialist in China, studied surgical and alternative solutions for the common arthritis disorders: osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis.
After moved to USA in 2000, Ding studied acupuncture for his certificate at AIAM (2009-2012, Professional Maters Level Acupuncture Program), and nationally certified in acupuncture by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine since 2012. He also refreshed his western medicine knowledge and hold USMLE/ECFMG certificate (2009), and further did an externship on surgical oncology, and practiced acupuncture at The Ohio State University.
Ding is a believer that food is medicine, worked as PIs and Co-Is of national grants in USA investigating in diet-based approach in cancer prevention. He has published approximately 60 peer reviewed papers and numerous abstracts in orthopedic clinic and translational cancer research.
All the training, knowledge, and experience has taught Ding about the advantages and disadvantages of modern and traditional Chinese medicine, and makes him believe that everyone needs an integrative healthcare team, and it is his privilege to work as part of the team for your well-being.
